After Career Day, students are exposed to potential professions, and in this lesson, they calculate weekly salaries, such as both gross and net pay.
Objective: (1) Introduce career options during Career Day, identify interests & skill sets, (2) practice salary paycheck calculation, and (3) understand the difference between gross and net pay
Common Core Standards: Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems (example: taxes, tax rate and after-tax salary)
What: Students will learn how taxes and other deductions account for the difference between gross and net pay.
How: (1) use worksheet to calculate hourly wage to weekly wage, to monthly salary, to annual salary, (2) calculate from gross income to net pay (after- tax pay)
